Ghar means home. Not the building, the feeling of walking into it.
Nobody buys a sideboard because they need somewhere to put things. They buy it because of how the room will feel once it is in.
What we do
A floor that changes every week.
Most furniture shops buy the same catalogue as each other and compete on price. We do something slower. We buy brand overstock, ex-display floors, end of range and estate pieces, one at a time, and we turn down most of what we are offered.
What we cannot find, we have made in South Africa. What has good bones but tired fabric, we strip back and remake.
Who is behind it
Ghar came out of an architectural practice.
Our design team spends the rest of the week on commercial and residential projects, the kind with drawings, deadlines and a quantity surveyor.
So the people choosing what goes on our floor are the people who spend their lives deciding what belongs in a space.
A building is only finished when it stops feeling like a building.

We commission from workshops we can drive to. It costs more than a container and we would rather say why.
